It's mostly the tech, really. I like old-school chatting and greatly enjoyed the old text-only days, but a lot of people only used that because it was all we had. With more vivid visual and audio options out there, text chat is a niche thing now.

It's different, not worse. People use their phones as primary music players these days, but there is still room for vinyl records hobbyists. You just don't want to be the cranky old person who hates change and rails against it because you were more comfortable in the old days.
