I open them. Whether I respond is a different story. If you're sending me a PM about something I wrote, I'm happy to reply. I always welcome those PMs. I've had some good conversations and even found a couple of J/O buds for in-person get togethers.

I always open any messages I get. After all this is a community for people to communicate and interact with others that have similar interests or tastes, right? And good manners or even just plain old common courtesy ensures that I answer all of them with a "Like to chat more about that" if I find the subject interesting, or a "No thanks" if I don't. As for spam, well I have never come across it on here, but certainly easy enough to delete the message and if you are foolish enough to click on a link in a message from someone you don't know, well then you shouldn't open any message on any site!

I got an obvious spam message the other day from someone with a female profile that asks me to contact them on their hotmail address for "for better communication."

Yes I think we all got that one!

I'll open them but like others have mentioned, it's easy to delete without responding. However, if the subject line has been a website address then I will delete as I have assumed they were spam. Most who message me have done so after chatting or after reading a post I've added or responding to a comment I have made.

unfortunately ive yet to receive a message relevent to my postings which clearly state in my profile what my interests are
also in looking into the profiles of those that have contacted me they have nothing in their profiles ???
if i can give information i dont see why others cant do the same??

I open all of them, and reply to most of them. Even when someone just asks me to chat with Kik, or Skype,...which I don't have,...I give them the courtesy to PM them back telling them that I don't have those.

I don't remember ever getting a mean or confrontational PM, so I look forward to opening them.

Like Zman, I open all of my messages and reply to most, even when someone just asks me to chat with Kik, or Skype,...which I don't have, just good manners isn't it? Perhaps I'm in a minority, but I look forward to receiving messages and get quite excited when I do receive them.

I always read them, and as long as they aren't offensive or suspicious, I reply. I've definitely gotten some spam, but it's usually pretty obvious. For one, those messages are usually from "women," and let's face it, the female population on here is pretty small. They also usually involve some crazy looking link to click. Also, a lot of times the sender's profile has already been deleted by the time I get to the message.
