I regret that in college I was bashful about it. It would have been so much better to have just broken the ice and jacked it when I needed to. I don't know that it would necessarily have lead to mutual JO with the roommate, but at least I think we could have reached some agreement on relieving our blue balls when we needed to. I'm convinced now the best way forward in these circumstances is just to be upfront about it and ask them straight up if they mind if you masturbate discretely in the room in bed when you're horny; after all your roommates are more than likely masturbators themselves and they'll probably feel relieved that this will give them permission to do it themselves as well. After all, its not as if you masturbating in bed causes much disturbance to them - if they're happily getting on with other stuff, or if you masturbate when everyone's in bed, the sound of the bed rocking in the background ain't going to stop them or wake them up. Unless of course it encourages them to masturbate also. But asking them also gives them the option to say yes they do object.....which i would guess they are highly unlikely to say. I don't think it leaves you in any worse position. Even if you get some gentle teasing about it afterwards, that won't last long.
