Vaseline won't hurt you, but it's not water soluble and is a bitch to wash off. NEVER use it with rubber....like a condom or a sex toy....because it will definitely damage the rubber.

You'll prefer a water based lube. Not as thick and easily washable. Either a jelly like KY in a tube, or an oil type.

I'm going to resurrect this old thread to say that I find myself going back to Vaseline for lube these days. I've got an old-fashioned streak (tighty whities, jockstraps, etc.) so Vaseline just fits in for me. But that's only part of it.

For me the trade-off with any kind of lube is that, in exchange for the slippery grip and that awesome slick-dick jack-off noise, you lose the primal smell of your junk and the intimate sense of how much precum you're churning out. (I love seeing the bead of pre that forms on my slit.)

Vaseline is simply to thick. Albolene is wonderful stuff. Lately I've been using mineral oil. It's lighter in consistency but long lasting. And it's inexpensive.

For water-based, I haven't found anything to top Astroglide. Astroglide knockoffs don't measure up, although at one time I recall Target used to make a copycat Astroglide that was as good and quite a bit less expensive.
