For me, AOL was the my first introduction to the "internet". I was amazed how you could just talk to anyone from anywhere and look up all kinds of things, well as much as dial-up allowed.

Having a computer illiterate family made things a lot easier to do whatever I wanted. I would stay up late just about every weekend letting my teenage curiosity take over and talk to just about anybody who IMed me. It was always fun to talk to a girl (at least they said they were a girl) and have the oh so tantalizing cyber-sex. Or go into a Gay chat room and announcing you were a "16/m bored and looking to chat" guaranteed a dozen IM's from guys. I am pretty sure AOL is the cause of my bi-curiosity.

Things got crazier if you went into the private chat rooms. Often I would get on an e-mail list and go to bed, next day wake up to 200 emails full of porn pics. My friends would act stupid over seeing a Playboy and it didn't even impress me cause I had tons of pics at home of girls doing things I couldn't even explain to my dimwit friends.

American Online is something the likes of we will never see again. It was social media before there even was such a thing. So please share some of your thoughts and stories from your days surfing the web on AOL.

Also if anyone needs any free-trial AOL discs let me know I have a few hundred to spare razz
Open minded to just about anything.

Great memories! AOL was our first Internet Service Provider. It's where I too discovered the wonders of the internet. No video in the dial-up days, but great times in the adult chat rooms which would lead to IM cyberjacking or, sometimes, cybersex. Talking to guys about our cocks, and to the girls who would tease me with graphic descriptions of their pussies and titties. (Some of the girls might really have been females....LOL.) AOL meant sex for me, and I'd start to get a hardon as soon as I'd hear the guy say "You've got mail." AOL was HOT!

I found this funny old story about "Cybersex Gone Wrong" on AOL internet.

oh yea aol... guess they're still around in some form. But yea same here - was my first introduction to the interwebs, not for cyber sex but just for getting online. Perhaps they're still in biz for those who can only get online using dialup.
its just sex

Good thread - I think we had Prodigy as our ISP. I do remember AOL IM and Yahoo messenger chat rooms though. I actually met my first gf through AOL IM - She randomly messaged me one day back in 2001.

Alright, you guys are making me feel old...er. I was "online" before the internet was even heard of. (it was invented but stricly military/university capacity. DARPAnet it was called if i recall correctly)

Anways, I used to dial up BBS systems (Bulletin Board Systems) typically a one on one deal, you dial up the host BBS (using and acoustic-coupled 300 baud modem) and navigate painfully slow through ANSI and ASCII "graphics" menus to get to role playing games, maybe a few files which were nothing more that text documents containing ham radio info or there was the hacker phreaker craze.

Then thinks started to grow, modem speeds got to 14400 (14.4) speed, WOW!

I started finding BBS's with porn files. Literally, it would take an hour or more to get one stupid BMP file and it usually sucked. Bad scan or some lame naked ugly chick. lol.

Then I went to a computer show and found "BBS Ready" CD-ROMs loaded with, you guessed it PORN! Right then I decided to start my own BBS. Modem speeds picked up, the 28.8 then 33.6 speeds and eventually 56k modems. My BBS grew, I eventually had 24 CD ROMS online (using big cartridge SCSI interface CD changer units) that I could have available for the dial up users. I charged a monthly subscription fee and I kept expanding my dial-up lines, I had 8 dial up numbers. And most were full/busy all the time, people downloading porn. And some anarchy stuff. I had adult chat rooms (which I participated in) and adult messaging networks. I had it going on.

I Rode a nice wave of success for several years until.... the INTERNET! It took a while to catch on, and I still ran a full BBS for a couple more years but eventually the membership declined. I kept it online for many years after that for nostalgia, but decided to pull the plug when I was getting maybe 10 or 12 callers a day, and those were people that could not afford internet access. I offered cheap access as i was able to pipe my internet feed directly into the BBS. But it barely paid the monthly phone bills to keep it afloat and online.
So I retired it and pulled everything offline. I ran it from 1993 to about 1998/99. It was fun while it lasted.

Ahhh, the bbs'. I, too, remember the days of the 300bd modem rates, and finding a few local bbs' to dial into. I had a green screen monitor, so any porn was all in shades of green, and took hours to download one picture. I was also on AOL, and remember the daily AOL cd you'd get in the mail. I had dozens of them that I'd use as coasters, or even fling at people. I was also on ICQ (which was purchased later by AOL). My ICQ id was a 5 digit number. I found out years later that people were paying big bucks for low ID#'s. Drats! Also was on Compuserve, as someone mentioned.
Masturbation is the best, innit!

Great story! Nice to have guys here who remember BBSs and acoustic-coupled 300 baud modems. Guys' needs for porn to power their hardons has driven technology from the first. It was guys who wanted a private way to see porn flicks that drove the early adoption of video tape, and the use of the VHS format by the porn industry that was instrumental in the acceptance of VHS over the Beta format. Porn drove the early sales of DVDs too. But nothing transformed porn delivery to the home like the internet and the precursors of the internet. How well I remember Netscape Navigator, the browser war with Internet Explorer, and Netscape's acquisition by AOL. Loved the AOL chat rooms, and how easy it was to IM someone to talk to or cyber with. You could talk sex with people there in a way that you never could before. The old Yahoo chat rooms were hot too until they filled up with bots.

I used AOL the same way. I was a teenager when I discovered the AOL chat rooms. At first I just lurked, and didn’t get a lot of IMs. But one night I was in a room where a woman and some guys were talking about her DD tits. I found the courage to IM her and ask if they were really that big and what size bra she wore. She told me that she wore a 38DD and described it in detail, including the fact that it was a four hooker. She started to talk to me about her bra and tits, knowing how obviously excited I was to be talking to her. She said that she had taken her blouse off and asked me “wanna cyber?”

She had me describe in detail how I was foreplaying her, with an emphasis on how I was handling those four back hooks to get her bra off, and then how I was playing with her titties. I shot off while we were still talking about her tits, before we ever talked about her pussy and my cock. Then I shot off again. I’d never even played with a woman’s bra before, much less bare tits and pussy. It was awesome to talk sex with a woman like that. Took it to a level that titty mags and Playboy centerfolds never had for me. An AOL IM was great sex for a young teenager.

Ah yes...AOL (and CompuServe and Source before that). Man I loved the chat rooms on AOL. There was always a private room named "JO" which was never displayed, but there for anyone to access if they knew to type in JO. Met plenty guys in there and then go private to jack off while typing to each other. Lots of very hot, cum-filled sessions.
stroke
Give me a PM & I love to watch

Oh yes, was introduced to online porn and cybering at 14.4kbps. Had AOL then played around with Prodigy and Compu-Serve. Think it was actually on Prodigy that I had my first cyber experience. A door was opened and I walked through. And old Yahoo Member rooms got me my first male BJ. WOW!
