ASL doesn't bother me, and I ask that one too on different chat sites. I don't want to be talking to some underage kid, and conversely someone in their twenties might not want to be talking to a more "mature"...shall we say.... person
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't think anyone is saying that "asl" in and of itself is inherently annoying. But rather as a first statement of introduction, it can be. I mean, if you were going to pick someone up while out somewhere, would you walk up to them and say, as the first thing to come out of your mouth, "How old are you? Are you really a woman/man? Where do you live?"

Sounds exactly like me. Unfortunately, I was flamed by certain individuals for expressing these views. I'd guess they fit the mold of whom we are complaining about.

I agree mostly, but I personally do ask what someone is into. Generally, the fun for me is feeding into others' crazy fantasies. Therefore, it's important to see what you are into.

I've always found ASL? irksome, a relic of chatrooms which I never cared for much. I read it as "above sea level" all the time, too.
I don't mind "what are you into" if it gets the ball rolling. I do dislike being the guy doing all work, getting one-way cam requests, and posting and sending all the links and pics.

May I also say that some of you American chaps are hugely irritating.
Furthermore, the expression 'Bro' or 'Bud' isn't much welcome either in circumstances where an emotional connection has yet to be made.
You're right. "M8" is much better.

I really approve of this thread. I've had so many annoying guys message me on yahoo and I wish they would read this first.

I'll add another common annoyance - guys who say "saw u on jackinchat" as if that's supposed to mean something. Now it's good to tell people where you're coming from but it's not hard for me to guess he's from JC since there are few other places to find my SN. I mean, did he see my profile? Or one of my several hundred posts on a variety of topics? Or did he just a pick a name at random? Very easy to let me in on what caught your cock-eye.

I agree with you that is my pet peeve with random yahoo chat intro statements. My profile is filled out, read that don't send me a yahoo message with "Hey what are you into?"
It only takes a moment to read and saves both of us a lot of wasted time.
