for some reason every time i try to log into the chat it tells me this in the window

10 Connection to chat server in progress...
4 Couldn't establish connection with chat server xxxchatters.com:6,667.



i have tried everything to fix it all the trouble shooting and stuff new java everything and still wont work

I'm assuming you are using the Java chat here on the webpage. If you have a firewall program installed, try disabling it and see if you can connect. If you can, you'll have to dig through its settings and make sure Internet Explorer and Java are not being blocked.

yeah see i did that and it still didnt work its ok i was just wondering still not quite sure

this keeps happening with me as well. I'm on the latest safari, windows xp professional. have checked firewall settings, confirmed latest java....everything mentioned and still the same error message.

other things to try:
- Clear you web browser's cache (temporary files) then restart your computer
- Run a Windows Update and install all critical updates
- Disable any firewall software
- Go to www.java.com and install the latest java release
- Try a different web browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Apple Safari
- It is possible your Internet Provider is blocking port 6667, which is what the chat server uses.

If you were banned from the server, I think you would get a different error message. Other than these steps, I'm not sure what else to have you try.

can't get in either. something is wrong with the site. check it out, all of us user's computers can't suddenly stop working!?

Well I know it has something to do with my computer because I got on my boyfriends laptop and got into the chat just fine. I just haven't figured out what is different from mine to his.

Jamie, its hard for me to guess without looking at your computer, but it really sounds like you have some security software on your computer that is blocking either Java applications from running, or is blocking the ports on your computer that the chat server uses, which should just be port 6667.

Try disabling any antivirus, antispyware, firewall programs you have and try connecting.
