Depends on the type of ring. I use a solid metal one and I have to put it on limp and can't remove it while hard.

Do they work depends on what you are looking to get from them. If you want to maintain an erection longer or stay stiffer, yes...they work. If you want your balls pulled down and tugged on as you jack or fuck, they work. If you like the way they look and it turns you on...they work.
