JackinChat has been a great community for myself and many others but lets be real, the site is absolutely archaic at this point.

The UI can be clunky and unintuitive to use. It handles and looks like something out of the early-mid 2000's net.

Why can't we sort posts by popularity, number of replies, or by date?

And seriously, why can't we view messages that we've sent to other users?

Also, I don't feel like the moderators are doing a good job of adjusting to the wants and needs of the community. MyCircle and Rabb.it threads get shut down left and right. Your users obviously want these threads to be a thing. Can't you just make a dedicated thread for each? It's been brought up before but with pretty much no response from mods except " 'Now' posts aren't allowed."

Make a dedicated thread for rabb.it and MyCircle and solve the fucking problem then!

I have been annoyed at the fact that recently I have to keep signing in if I don't stay active for more than 5 or 10 minutes.
I like the site, but you're right. It does need to be brought up to modern standards.
I also would like to be able to post pics without having to post them to Tumbler or some other place and then have to put a link to that pic in a post or reply.
Love stroking with the women in person, on the phone or on webcam.

The website as a whole is a custom code it's not something we can just get out of the box. The owner/coder of the site leads a very busy personal life so he does what he can when he can.

As for the chat room, that technology is from the 1990's and development on chat items has not happened since the mid 2000's. If we wanted to do anything that was more advanced it would require paying lots of money per month for the features which would then make the site not be free. The HTML5 chat applet is the newest one that there is out there in development and looks great, if you are using one that looks like crap try switching.
Welcome to the Rabbit Hole.

I'd like to say Thank You! to the creators and moderators of this site.

It's FREE! Come on... It's FREE!

It's also the first place I go when I fire up my browser. It doesn't matter if I plan on going into porn or just checking my personal email. I go here first just to see if someone messaged me or if there are any hot topics being discussed.

I don't know a lot about web development but I know a little. It isn't simple. What some folks think web development is today isn't what many of us learned on years ago, using native HTML and having to write every line of code to get stuff to show up on the page. I'm talking about first-generation web development, not this fifth-generation stuff that kids learn on, where all you have to do is drag a mouse around a box and, like magic, it appears on your web page.

To make this stuff work reliably and keep complaints to a minimum you have to build a stable environment that, oh by the way, needs to work with every conceivable web browser out there. Not as simple as some might think.

So Thanks to the support folks!

That being said, I still don't understand how the search results are displayed. When I enter a "topic" search for "mycircle" and get 600+ pages of results I can't tell if they are in any date sequence. I guess I'd like to see that returned in a most-recent-first order, and maybe with the date of the post displayed to it's clear.

:-)

How about keeping the fucking pedophiles and incest guys out of the fucking chat rooms? There's zero fucking moderation anymore, although God forbid someone repeat a post.

I love that it's free, but you get what you pay for.

Repeats, specific key words, etc. can be (and are) easily programmable for the bot to look out for. Content violations such as you mention are trickier to catch by automation.

When a live mod is in the room, we do what we can to watch out for such things, but we are human. We may be looking at something in a different browser tab, may be focused on the other room, might be multitasking with a wholly unrelated project, might have stepped away from the computer to get something to drink or use the restroom. Or, for that matter, we may be...um...enjoying some of the content of the room ourselves. wink So, if we miss something, we have absolutely no problem with users pointing it out to us. If a live mod isn't present, Adiemus keeps his account logged in specifically to allow people to report such things if none of us are around. He'll get your IM when he's back at his computer, check the room logs, and take appropriate action.

We don't want that sort of material in the rooms, either. As always, we count on diligent users to help us keep the chat clean. Well, clean-ish, given the general purpose of our rooms. You know what I mean.

Please also note that dalnet, the chat host, is independent of JackinChat. They host literally thousands of rooms, while we only own and maintain two of those. Someone in one of our rooms also being in a sketchy room is not, in and of itself, grounds to remove them from our rooms, as long as they're abiding by our rules while they're there. Let those users and the owners of those rooms face the music for any legal infractions they may make. IF, however, they start bringing that into our rooms, we'll deal with it. Which circles back around to the previous point. Let us know if you see such content and it appears we missed it. We'll thank you for it.

I wouldn't mind something to flag that I have already posted in a thread, that links to my post. I sometimes see a thread resurface, and can't recall if I have posted there, and have to go through the whole thread, or worse, my entire post history, to check.

I've just spent a lot of time and effort responding to another user's PM only to lose the whole message when I was required to sign back in after submitting it. Annoying doesn't begin to describe it.

You might have a good reason to make people sign back in but taking time to write a message isn't a good reason to dump what someone's written. Retaining a memo field's content during a redirect isn't rocket science.

Problem is the tech improvements & admin changes mentioned here & at greater length in the "whinges" thread (I forget its name sick) all cost $$$$.

So the question becomes "Who's to pay for it?"

The only possibilities I see are either the membership cry or increased advertising.

My understanding, btw, is that the mods' only job is to police site content. So having a go at them will not lead to technical changes or administrative improvements.

Disabling the 'remember me' function, if that's what's doing it, as a security precaution is one thing; discarding the contents of a memo field when the extremely short timeout kicks in is quite another. It's might solve a site problem but it does so by creating a new problem for users.

I think this thread is a great idea, and despite how some people seem to have responded, I don't think it was meant as an attack on the owners or mods. The truth is, the internet is always changing. It's fast. Those who don't change with it will eventually be left behind. So discussions of what the owner can and can't do, as well as what we the user would like to see, are important.

Saying "website design is expensive and complicated" is cheating as an answer. It is both and it is neither. If the site is written with HTML, it is outdated but there are YouTube videos and HTML help sites that will tell you how to do everything. The same can be said for html5 and css. Someone who has no deal what they are doing can learn passable webdesign.

Personally I am okay with the site, I just wish we could post photos to the site rather than having to go through a third party site.

I enjoy the site. Like many have stated it is 'free' so we are in no position to ask for much but it can certainly use some basic updates.
