I remember those days. The "Y" required all the boys to be naked in the pool. Naked male swimming seems to have gone on for more than 50 years. Seems like non-sexual nakedness was a sort of a male bonding ritual. It was big in the schools too. As soon as they stripped off their jockstraps after gym class, boys had to shower in an open shower room with no privacy. People started coming to their senses in the 1960's and 70's, with the death of the male macho bonding bullshit and the arrival of common sense. This allowed them to be sold in states that banned the sale of contraceptive devices. (Condoms were generally at least 7 inches long, and the legal disclaimer was printed in small letters on the last inch around the very top.)

In 1960, the approval of the contraceptive pill changed the sexual landscape. Like most guys I knew, I always carried a condom or two on date night. I was in college, and I knew of a fraternity house that kept a "rubber bowl" full of condoms that the frat brothers could pick up as needed when they left for dates. As some time passed, guys figured they didn't need rubbers anymore as more and more girls in that age group got on the pill (or some other contraceptive.) But there was controversy for a while as Bible-thumping preachers and opportunistic politicians denounced the immorality of unmarried women who were obviously avoiding pregnancy as they engaged in recreational sex.

A woman's interest in sex often dries up after the children have been born. Consciously or subconsciously, they think of men as sperm donors. They know what they have to do to keep men fucking them as long as they need the sperm, but often no more. Men would go crazy if they didn't have masturbation to turn to.

I used the big old Sears and Montgomery Wards catalogs with their pages and pages of bras and girdles and other women's underwear. I think that "dating" for many guys in their young years is a matter of getting laid as often as possible, as soon as they gain social confidence with women and have the technique to control their orgasms with decent staying power. I could probably be called a jerk with women in college. It wasn't about a social life really. On the first date, she had to make out with some titty action at a minimum. Maybe she'd slap away my hand going up between her legs. But then if she didn't hit the sheets and really put out on the second date, I moved on. That ran up the numbers. Same with lots of one-night-stand opportunities in the career years. I avoided STD's by using rubbers unless I felt really confident about the girl. Bought Trojans in three dozen boxes. The girls knew what guys wanted, so they did what was necessary to have a social life.
