Thankfully I didn't have a weirdo on my meet-up. I recently met a guy on a site kind of similar to this. I noticed that he lived less than 5 miles away, so I just started a conversation with him. We were both nervous that we were so close, but we still chatted like normal friends for a few days. The main thing we wanted to do was compare since neither of us had done so before.
