Ah - sorry about that, guys. I broke the "quick launch" in the sidebar. I've fixed that now and those having the "name parameter not provided" issue should not have any further issues.

I have been using the new server for a couple of days, but this morning, I cannot get in...it tells me I am banned for some reason....makes no sense as I had no issues yesterday when I was on. Been logging in with my usual user name all the time

You have to allow the applet access otherwise it won't be able to connect. Here's why:

The applet is hosted here on jackinchat.com. It wants to connect to the IRC server hosted on irc.dal.net. dal.net is not jackinchat.com and so the applet asks the user for permission to connect to a different host than jackinchat.com. This is a security feature of Java, but they do an extremely poor job of explaining what it is asking you for permission to do.

Read the security prompts carefully and give permission and do not block anything.

If doing this makes you nervous, there are lots of good free IRC clients for Mac. Here's my favourite: http://colloquy.info/

Ok, so the way this works is when you connect to irc.dal.net, the load balancer kicks in and picks a server for you from a list of 30 or so. If you happen to land on a server that has a problem with your ISP, you can't really do anything about it unless you manually connect to an alternate server (which you can't really do with the Java client).

I've tried defining a bunch of alternate servers in the Java client. If you can't connect to one, in theory, it'll try another for you.

Hasn't helped, still can't get on. Irony is that I never had a problem with the old server. I have email connections with several guys I met on the site, most of them tell me that they are now no longer able to connect...they get the "banned" message too.

Guess time will tell whether or not I (we) can get back on.

Ok - take two.

I've added a drop-down box under the chat window. If you get a message saying for one reason or another the server you've been dropped on won't let you on, choose another from the drop down and hit connect.

Yeah Im getting that as well. It really sucks, I have enjoyed chatting on here as well. People that have done this really stink, but there is always someone out there that knows more about computers than me.
