Besides the java reinstall, make sure you dont have a software firewall blocking java, maybe try a different web browser like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Apple Safari. Could also try power cycling your modem and/or router by unplugging power for a minute then plug back in.

to the guys that keep having Java issues, the problem isn't with us here on the chat, there must be something messed up on your computer. Most likely you have virus/spyware infections, breaking your operating system. I've already given every solution I can think of in this discussion, so I really can't reply to them anymore without saying the same thing each time.

I was hoping the new interface would help me connect, but I still am having problems - have been unable to connect for months now. The message I now get is: Unable to connect : java.net.ConnectException : Connection refused: connect. No idea why.

For those of you unable to get in the chat, even after all my suggestions: I guarantee that if you completely format your hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch that you will be able to get in. It is because you hosed your operating system somehow, mostly likely because of a virus infection.
