'Tis bootless to proffer an approved definition, but t'were meetest methinks to canvass what thou all reckst in this suit.
There's two definitions for lovemaking we might consider:
1. Sexual activities with a definite romantic emotional subtext.
2. Any activity, sexual or otherwise, with a definite romantic emotional subtext.
I prefer the latter. But am I wrong in believing that, say, quietly holding hands on a park bench watching a sunset constitutes making love? Or should it be reserved strictly for sexual activities resulting in someone's orgasm?

There are more things in heaven and earth than are in thy philosophies, Fellatio.

While I appreciate the Shakesperean reference, methinks 'tis foolhardy to expect a reply from the women now that you have stirred up the witches brew.
I for one, think this is a very worthwhile topic, and I was wondering if you would mind reposting in a more serious tone, so that the women would not feel triffled with.

I feel no responsibility for the lack of replies to this thread. Just about any topic may use some levity.

Ok ok, I'm finally gonna reply to this one.
Lovemaking.....I would define it as sexual acts (#1). All the other stuff is affection, romance etc. My opinion at least!

My 2 cents are going to be a bit different. I define the sexual act three different ways:
1.) Fucking: Anyone will do, no connection emotionally, only fulfilling a physical need.
2.) Screwing: Some emotional connection but not love for each other, fulfilling the physical and emotional needs of both individuals or possibly just one of the two.
3.) Love making: Only the partner involved will do, deep emotional connection and strong loving bond between the partners, a completely intimate act expressing desire and vulnerablity.
Your item 2 died out around the 1950s and was extinct by the 1970s. It was replaced by the term "going with".

I usually use the term "love making" to refer to sexual intimacy involving both physical and emotional attraction. It's associated with romance and a desire to be with that someone.
This makes it different from fucking or a booty call or screwing which is more impersonal. The desire is purely lust and usually, personal pleasure...It can be done with anyone, once you're horny enough or had enough to drink.
So in summary, porn stars and people in general wanting to relieve sexual stress or had one to many drinks, fuck, and people in "love" make love...but once that feeling fades, they just want that raw pleasure of a good fuck and orgasm at the end of the day...

Vic, I know you posted this for the women, but I see Ron led the way for the men, and I have wanted to post here likewise, so I hope you don't mind. I remember seeing a number of "older classical" movies in which love-making simply referred to talking about love or some sort of flirtatious mannerisms. I still like that idea of lovemaking. I think it applies to all the foreplay that comes before you even hop into bed. Looking longingly into someone's eyes, a certain smile, or wink, holding hands, etc. But I also think of it as sexual conact with someone you love and treating that person in a loving manner when you have sex with them.
I think that anything less, is only fucking someone to get your rocks off, even though you might even go so far as to consider the other person's feelings. Feelings of lust and sexual acts do not necessarily constitute love-making in my opinion.

I never really thought of this.
I don't like to call anything "lovemaking". It sounds like you're about to bake a cake. And the phrase "Make love to me"... as if sex is the only way love can be portrayed. It's over romanticized.
I won't have sex with someone who doesn't love me or doesn't care about me. You can fuck wildly with someone who cares enough to give you mind splitting orgasms.. or you can be passionate and all that with your partner.
I don't like the words "love making" but I like the idea.
I wouldn't see holding hands or hugging or making out as love making.

Yep, I agree. Nothing like the emotional ties ('ties' not necessarilly meaning a bad thing of obligation and stuff), just having a true connection and attraction with someone you wanna hookup with this way, sexually I mean. It's nice to share something a little deeper than just fucking for the sake of fucking. Nice to know someone and have some sort of deeper attraction, not just physically. That's what I even like as far as cybersexing with someone... sharing something a little more personal and hopefully emotionally to a certain level. It makes orgasms sooooo much better! That's exactly why I love simply cuddling so much, for real and even when cybering with someone... you can cuddle, touching someone on a level different than just sexually. Just chatting with someone in a non-sexual way is a form of cuddling, for me it is! Cuddling is a form of foreplay I guess in a way... as well as after orgasm(s), cuddling is just as nice.
