Mention your interest in hooking up w/guys off-handedly and one-on-one, without directing it at your friend.

("Man, I haven't gotten a good xxx in awhile, I need to find a guy soon!" or somesuch...)

If he wants to play, you're in.

If not, you've given him the option to let the comment pass without putting him on the spot.
