Like most people, I imagine, I usually find modern commercial porn unexciting. That's normally because the girls are too loud, too instantly enthusiastic and - above all - much too fake. What I long for is suppressed excitement and a sense of palpable sexual tension. I rarely find it, unfortunately.

Of course, it's a tall order. To convincingly produce those feelings onscreen, the performer would need to be a very competent actress, and most porn 'stars' aren't really actresses at all. However, I suspect the main problem lies with directors and producers: their idea of porn that sells is to have lots of vacuous writhing and moaning from the word go. Maybe they have got the formula right - maybe people really do enjoy all that fake nonsense - but I suspect the porn-viewing public just settles for this fakery for want of anything better.

Does anybody know of any porn that fits my description - quietly exciting, tensely arousing - and (a really tall order, I admit) with a degree of genuine psychological insight thrown in as well? Anything that meets those criteria - even partially - would be very welcome to me.

The precise genre isn't really important. As far as I'm concerned, the issue of who does what, with what, and to whom is purely secondary. The crucial issue is the presence of that palpable excitement, that tension, without ridiculous over-acting to get in the way. Any ideas?
