Would it be possible for you to go through your database and delete anyone who hasn't logged in for say two years or more. Some of the profiles are really old and are not used.
Thanks

Yeah tons of them are very old. You can see ppl joined and used the site one day yrs ago. I think some sites leave em to make it seem like they have a lot of members.

Yeh thats a good idea.
What would doing this accomplish?
I'm just a guy

Well, I find it infuriating when I am searching profiles looking for where dudes come from and I keep opening up profiles only to find that they haven't been on for years.
Wouldn't your database perform faster after a cleanout?

Nothing at all. Don't do it.

Reduce space on whatever server you use?
Give the site database a fresher feel?
Make profile-searching more productive?
And if any of the above is correct, then, I don't know how your database is organised, but if minimal effort would be needed to carry out such a purge, wouldn't it accomplish more than the effort you'd have to put in?
If so, I'd say it's a no-brainer.

All valid points but who's going to do the work? Not us, ehh.
A mind is like a door or a window, it only works when open.

Ben runs the site - he's the one who asked the question. I wouldn't expect him to give me - or anyone else who was just a site-member - access to his database!
Can't you write a script to delete all users that didn't log in in a year?

Why delete the profiles, when you can just use the search function to eliminate whatever doesn't interest you?
I think that the profiles are a valuable resource, whether the member has posted lately or not. I think it's great that Ben doesn't require recent posting to keep an account active. Then you can use the profile search functions to pick out whatver you want.
I often like to see the profiles that have pictures. These are also often the ones with interesting profile descriptions.
So if I want to just look at the pictures, I bring up Profiles, and in the profile search I just click on "with a photograph." Then the 1601 total profile pages becomes just 251 pages of picture profiles.
Then if I want to only see those members who have recently joined Jackinchat, then I sort by "New Members First." I just did that, and the first page shows members who have joined between 11/24/2012 and 11/30/2012. So you can see only the recent members that way, going back no further than you want.
Or maybe I want to see only active members who have recently logged onto the site. Then I sort by "Last Visited." I just did that, and right now I'm getting on the first page only members who have logged on today, 12/1/2012. Once again, you can go back as far as you want this way to identify the recently active members.
So with the use of the search function, you never have to look at the old profiles, or the inactive members, if you don't want to.
I think that the profiles (both old and new) are a valuable resource, and should be retained in the database.
