My experience with cock rings is similar to yours, Cherryknob.

The ring in my profile is a 2" ring of 1/4" stock. It is worn around cock and balls. I have to mount that before I get hard.

If I use a ring on the cock alone I use a 1-1/2 " ring of the same stock. I can usually slip that on or take it off with any degree of hardness, if I use some lube.

BTW, I use what are called "weld rings" or "harness rings" which you can get in a hardware store for less than a buck a piece.

I recommend that you get some of those bungee rings that girls use to wrap their pony tails. After experimenting with those you can try leather strips. Then try the rings. Start with a large ring and work down to a size that works well for you. The rings are so inexpensive at the hardware store you can buy several sizes. For your size I would try a 3" ring for starters. Assuming you will try to put your balls and cock in at the same time.
