If you really want to hide things without worrying about physical media, you can use TrueCrypt. It's a free, open-source software that can create hidden volumes on your existing hard drives. It does work on USB drives, too, for an added layer of security.

Why don't you guys just hide a folder within a folder within a folder? Is it that fucked up you have to encrypt it?

On my old laptop, I went in to the "Windows folder". There was a "System 32 folder" (Widows is either 32 or 64 bit), so I created a folder in "Windows folder" and named it "System 64". I created s sub-folder inside it for porn. In the 64 folder I downloaded a JPEG of a "gear" so it was utilized as the folder thumbnail and looked like a true systems folder.

I lock my computer and don't let anyone use it. But then I'm also capable of fixing it myself.

Just being careful. I live in a southern red state where porn is effectively illegal, and there's a proposal to allow law enforcement authorities to inspect computers without warrant.

Hidden folders or making sub-folders won't really do the trick, neither will anonymous/private browsing. Depending on your settings you can still leave traces in your usersapp data folder, recent files, and other places.

One thing to think about is to create another user that doesn't have admin privileges (so you at least partially limit potential for what some malware can do). (I'm assuming Windows). That way you won't see things like the recent files show up when logged in as the main user.

VLC is a good media player and you can set the preferences so that you won't leave traces, be careful to disallow automatic album art downloading because that leaves something in your appdata folder. Also, you can use diskclean to get rid of thumbnail images which Windows Explorer creates and puts in that appdata folder unless you only set it to view details or not show thumbnails for images.

Then definitely get truecrypt as suggested before and create a volume to not just store your porn, but also use Firefox and create your profile there too. I have a 230GB truecrypt volume that's close to full, and it's amazing how fast (and strong) the encryption/decryption is, and then besides not needing to encrypt your drive you can backup and bring your truecrypt file to other PCs easily.

Anyway, just a couple of ideas that have worked for me ...

In my opinion and experience, keep it simple and don't be ashamed.
