I'm fairly new to this online chatting stuff. People share Wickr and Kik names all the time on here -- and to a lesser extent, Tox -- but I keep hearing elsewhere that Signal is the "best." Is there any reason anyone here avoids Signal or recommends NOT using it? I just don't see people talking about it on here.

does signal require giving out your phone number? if so, that's a deal-breaker for me.

Secure encrypted connection for audio, video, images. Does need phone to register, but the only thing the developers know is that you use signal, not what data flows. Works on Windows, iPhone, Mac, Linux, Android. Open source. Recommended. Not popular, because everyone uses Skype, despite it being as private as having a wank on the main street!

Signal is suddenly very popular. #1 in both Google and Apple app stores. It does require your phone number which could be a problem for those casual one-off encounters, but if you have a regular buddy that you are comfortable with, it does provide a way to cam and mic that is very safe and secure. Anyone have Signal now? How is it?

I'm really enjoying Signal. Haven't used it for cam/mic yet, for that I still am on Skype, and more and more Discord too. But Signal is great for porn swapping. DM me if interested and I'll give you my Signal handle.

Anything tied to my phone number is a deal breaker as well. I haven't found an option with good video capabilities yet that is secure and private.
