I was cut when shortly after birth, just like everyone else. I don't miss what I only had for a couple of days. I can't say I'm happy that I was or not, it was done and my parents listened to the medical advice available at that time and I can't fault them for doing so. Fast forward 20 years and attitudes towards it have changed. It is no longer considered "necessary". An uncut penis is not any less cleaner than a cut one, everyone takes a shower everyday. Cancer rates for men and women never fell because of it, HPV and UTI are just as common and STDs are preventable by using condoms and common sense.

Would I consider getting it done as a teen or adult on my own? Probably not...but maybe I would. It would have been my decision just like it would have been if I decided to get a body piercing.

Unless there is a legitimate medical reason, just leave it alone. It's purely cosmetic.

In most parts of Canada, circumcision was automatically covered under provincial medical plans, so it was automatically done and everybody was okay with the procedure being done on new borns. Since it's no longer covered under anyone's medical plan, it's no longer done.

It's interesting when you look at it and people's motivation. If it's "free", then nobody looks at it, but when parents find out the cost, the pass on it as they cannot justify the cost, despite what doctors and nurses say. The old reasons for doing it have been proven unfounded. UTI infections numbers never dropped, HPV and certain cancer rates never dropped either, which were the original reasons why it was covered under health plans. I'll tell you that a lot of Dr's made a lot of money performing this unnecessary procedure. It's expensive to get it done and it's a waste of money. Leave it alone.

Thank god most parents have stopped. It's better to put that money into a college fund for them later instead.
